Tutorial 3: Problems and solutions when holes are drilled in the wrong place during the zinc bath

When hot-dip galvanized, tubes and hollow bodies in the wrong place will prevent zinc and surface treatment fluids from flowing freely.

There may be zinc left in the pieces, which will cause sagging.
There may be processing liquid in the parts, which will generate defects or ashes.
There may be pockets of air in the parts, which will prevent zinc from coming into contact with the steel, and will not protect it from corrosion.

So how ?

The tubes must be open at the ends and the holes must be made as close as possible to the angles and welds.

Warning : the diameter of the holes is important!

In case of complex assembly, a precise drilling plan will allow to position the holes, according to the direction in which the parts are immersed in the baths.

So, it’s up to you!
