INFLUENCE OF SHEET CUTTING MODE ON GALVANIZATION OF PARTS
The cutting mode of steels (sheets) can influence the quality of a coating in terms of thickness, and sometimes adhesion.
It should be noted that this problem is not systematic and that, probably, steel, depending on its origin, may be the cause.
With regard to flame cutting, Annex C, article C.1.3 of the NF EN ISO 1461 standard, specifies that the areas of the cut surfaces must be grinded in order to obtain the minimum thicknesses of coating specified by the standard on these places.
With regard to laser cutting, there may be poor adhesion of the coating due to skin hardening of the metal at the cutting location. If this layer is removed by grinding, brushing, or sanding, the adhesion of the coating becomes correct again.
In any case, it is desirable to adapt the cutting process, because it is possible that by lowering the temperature and playing on the adjustment parameters, the disadvantages disappear.
