Protection of metals

Definition : Protection of metals

Metals have been used for centuries for the manufacturing of tools, in construction, industry, and are now present virtually anywhere that there is a human population.

Steel has become the most well-known and most used metal since the industrial revolution because it combines valuable properties with relatively low costs. However, all metals, and steel in particular, have a weak point : they corrode. They therefore need to be protected against potentially harmful environments. The protection of steel by hot-dip galvanizing has become acknowledged as the most effective and most economical way of protecting it against corrosion.
